As part of our ongoing effort to highlight the perspectives of our partners, we had the opportunity to speak with Aurélie Gueguen from Toyota Motor Europe, a global leader in automotive innovation, driving advancements in hybrid and electric vehicle technologies.

Within the SOLIDBAT project, Toyota contributes its expertise in EV cell specifications, validation testing, and performance optimization, playing a crucial role in ensuring that the developed solid-state battery technologies can meet the demanding requirements of electric mobility.

In this interview, Aurélie shares her insights on the key challenges faced in Work Package 2 and the synergies expected with project partners, reflecting Toyota’s commitment to advancing sustainable and high-performance energy storage solutions.

Which are the challenges of your WP(s)?

In WP2 we are proposing some directions to consider (loading of the positive electrode, components thickness) in order to reach targeted energy densities, but this may not be easily feasible or may come with compromises. We are also investigating existing recycling technologies to provide design guidelines to ensure easier recycling of the SOLIDBAT cells. However, as new cell chemistry is being developed by the consortium, recyclability of some components is difficult to assess.

Which synergies do you expect to have with partners?

It will be key to have easy and open communications between the partners involved in material development and partners providing those guidelines to ensure these aspects are considered since the start of the project. This is one of the critical tasks of the WP leader.
